5 Tips for Boosting Immune System in Seniors
The good news is that there are plenty of ways that you can help build up a senior’s immunity so that kind of problem isn’t likely to crop up as often.
1. Eat Healthy Foods
A healthy diet is the first line of defense for a great many situations your elderly loved one could find themselves in.
Fruits and vegetables are high in antioxidants, which are really helpful when it comes to your loved one’s immune system. Healthy fats, such as omega-3 fatty acids, are also a good choice. Some spices and herbs, such as garlic and ginger, have healing properties, too.
Your loved one also needs plenty of water every day to keep their system running smoothly.
2. Destress
Stress is a big factor when it comes to keeping your immune system healthy.
Your loved one may need help letting go of some of the worries that they’ve held onto for years. Meditation can help, or journaling about their feelings. Work with your loved one to find the right combination to help reduce stress levels.
3. Exercise
The human body was built to move, even when it’s older, and your loved one is no exception.
Engaging in exercise regularly can help to boost immunity. Your loved one doesn’t have to work out with major intensity, either. Gentle walking, gardening, or playing with grandchildren may be all the exercise they need.
Work with your loved one’s doctor to come up with an exercise plan that’s right for them.
4. Sleep
Getting the right amount of sleep is extremely helpful when it comes to helping your elderly loved one to avoid illnesses.
If they’re not sure why they’re not sleeping well, then it might be time for something like a sleep study. The problem could be very easy to solve, however, by setting up a solid routine for going to bed at a decent time and getting up around the same time each day.

5. Herbs and Supplements
There are plenty of different herbs and supplements out there that can help to boost your loved one’s immunity.
But before you go off and grab a bunch, make sure that you talk to their doctor about your plans. Some medications don’t play well with some herbs and supplements, so it’s important to talk to your loved one’s doctor before they start taking anything new. Report any side effects to their doctor as well.
Once you have a handle on where your loved one needs more help, it’s far easier to help their immune system get stronger.
