We’re happy to report that since re-opening the clinic for in-person visits in July, things are working out just fine. Honestly, that’s a little scary to say since 2020 has been the kind of year that kicks you in the belly right after you say things are going great. So, we’re going to keep it low key and not brag too much about how good everything is, but we do want to share a little bit about the "new normal" around here.
We are now open for in-person visits on Tuesdays and Fridays. On those days, you are greeted at our new front door (which used to be called the “secret door” by some of our families) by Lauren’s smiling-behind-her-mask face. She takes you through a few health questions and a temperature check. Then it’s off to wash hands and work with your speech therapist or OT. Christina, Laura, and Sarah are in the clinic, masked and in face shields, and doing their best to make play-based therapy engaging and fun for our clients.
On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays we open our virtual doors and all of our therapies are done over Zoom. Our clinicians and Lauren work from home offices. Online therapy has been our go-to since the pandemic began and whenever it is practical, we still choose teletherapy to minimize contact. If you are new to our clinic, know that many of our evaluations are now done online, but we will always work with you to figure out the best plan for your situation. We spend a good amount of time on the phone with you during our intake process to ensure we are meeting your needs in the best way possible.
Typically at this time of year, we do a major schedule overhaul to get kiddos in after-school spots. This year we do not have a lot of flexibility with our speech schedule, as it is solidly booked. We do have a little wiggle room in our OT schedule, so if you are thinking about starting, now would be a great time.
We hope to get some in-person groups started once our families settle into their new school schedules. Our groups usually focus on social skills and a combination of personalized speech and occupational therapy goals, built around a theme. Some meet once a week over a season, and some are more casual such as our Parents’ Night Out groups that were held monthly. Let us know if you are interested in upcoming groups!
While it cannot be stressed enough that this year is challenging in a multitude of ways, we keep proving to ourselves that we can do this, one day at a time. We see your patience, your hard work, your ability to laugh in the face of hardship and keep moving forward. Know that we are always here for you, and we got this!
