Keighcee Callahan, RN, BSN, MSN, never aspired to become a nurse. It was during a stint at Children’s Hospital Colorado in a non-clinical role where she fell in love with pediatric patients and their families.

“I surprised myself when I decided to go to nursing school and focus on serving pediatric patients. I love this population and what I get to do,” adds Callahan.

Keighcee earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing in 2018 and her Master’s degree in Nursing Leadership in 2021. She has worked in home health for nearly three years.

Enjoying the Culture, FCS Team

As Clinical Manager of the Family Caregiver Services program at Solace Pediatric Healthcare, Keighcee helps manage the Nurse Care Managers, Family CNAs and In-Home Support Services (IHSS) attendants. She reviews all documentation and helps maintain program compliance. In addition, she develops resources for staff to support and educate families.

“I love helping our families and seeing the change that this program makes in their lives. I also like educating our nurses and supporting them.”

“Solace is a great place to work. I love our culture and we strive to go above and beyond for our families and each other. Our team is so supportive and helpful. Being part of a team that loves to serve and support is fantastic and very rare,” adds Callahan.

Keighcee says her proudest accomplishment is transitioning into a leadership role.

IMG_2084“As I move into leadership, I feel like I will have a greater impact on families and nurses around me helping to create an environment where people feel like they can learn, ask questions, get support and grow.”

In her spare time, Keighcee loves to cook and plan family functions. A mother to four kids, ages 3-22, she is very busy with her family.

“I am also a total nerd and love a good superhero, fantasy or Sci-Fi movie. I love a good joke or just to laugh and have fun,” adds Callahan.

“My biggest inspiration is women. I know so many strong women who have put themselves through school, juggled families, friends, careers, and a crazy amount of challenges, and then turn around and offer to help someone else. I think women are incredible. The amount of support they give to everyone around them is beautiful to watch.”

Keighcee’s Three Tips for New Nurses

  1. Listen more than you speak.

  2. Ask the questions!

  3. DO NOT JUDGE. You will see so much, but try not to judge and try to keep an open mind. You will never know what someone else has been through. Any time they spend with you should be safe as their nurse!

“Being a new nurse is hard, but gratifying. It is normal to be terrified every day, just keep learning,” adds Callahan.
