On Saturday, April 21 we had the privilege of volunteering with
Michelle's Love. The mission of Michelle's Love is to help relieve the stress of single parents undergoing cancer treatment by offering financial relief, house cleaning, and nutritious meals so that parents have more time to heal and to share quality time with their children.
We spent the day cleaning and doing yard work for a lovely woman named JaNiece who is battling stage 4 breast cancer. She is a single mom of 2 and is currently finishing chemotherapy treatments before her double mastectomy surgery at the end of April. You can read more about JaNiece, our day, and the story of Michelle's Love in
this great article written by Clark County Today.
After the event, Christina, our clinic OT, shared this:
"I recently found out one of my former teachers passed away from breast cancer last week at 39. So it felt good to have an opportunity to give back to someone going through a similar experience. It was great meeting Andy, the founder of Michelle's love and talking to her about her experiences and organization. I would definitely volunteer for her again."
And Kim T, who helped organize this event, shared this:
"It was great to see so much support for this event. I love working for a company that walks the walk of their core value to give back. I loved the hands-on nature of this volunteer event because I felt connected to the mission of Michelle’s Love. I know I am making a tangible impact and there was a sense of accomplishment and teamwork when we left."
Finally, Andy McCandless, the founder of Michelle's Love, emailed us earlier this week to say the following:
"I just want to thank you all for choosing Michelle's Love. JaNiece called me and you could hear it in her voice how grateful and happy she was. I also touched base with volunteers that are going to keep up on mowing her lawn through the next couple months. We are going to buy her a better lawn mower too."
We are humbled to have had this opportunity and thrilled to hear that JaNiece and her family will continued to be cared for in the coming weeks and months. A HUGE thank you to Kim for researching this organization and scheduling the opportunity to work with Michelle's Love!
