The year is coming to an end. Know what that means? Time for a “Best of..” list! And since kids will be out of school in a few weeks, our list is filled with fun activities and crafts to fill your every day in a positive way. Not only will kids be out of school, but our clinic will also be closed for winter break from December 24 through January 1. We open back up on Tuesday, January 2! So without further ado, here are our suggestions on how to spend some quality time over your break...
5 Fun Activities For Winter Break
1. Snuggle up and read
Reading is one of our all-time favorite activities. Looking for some good books? Check out our recent videos where Laura, Sarah, Jenny, Kim, and our graduate student Jeff share some of their favorite books. If you like the sound of these books, please put your name in the hat for our raffle. We're giving away a set of these books with a drawing held on Friday, December 21.
2. Make candy cane mice!
Have you seen this super-cute activity that our craft maven Carla set up for us this month? She also has a list of rodent-related words next to the craft that targets certain letter sounds. If you’d like to try this at home, take a picture of the craft directions and the target words. That way siblings can join in on the fun too. They make a nice holiday decoration or a sweet gift for a friend.
3. Get slimed!
One of Sarah’s favorite activities was making fluffy slime. It's always a big hit, and simple to make! Check out our free slime downloadable for some great ideas from our SLPs and OTs on how to work on speech and OT goals while making it.
4. Ponder joy
Another popular Carla craft was the hot-air balloons that we hung from the ceiling of the waiting rooms over the summer. Kids got to write down the things that give them joy on the sides of the paper balloon. It was super fun to learn about the variety of activities and things that bring unique joy to our clinic friends. The craft itself is fairly simple and you probably have many of the supplies on hand. The magic is in thinking about joy and finding ways to build more of it into our lives.
5. Play with clinic approved games and toys
Last year our clinicians shared some of their favorite toys and games. Check out the list and see how much fun your family can have. Hint: It's also handy for holiday shopping!
No matter what you decide to do over the coming weeks, we wish you all the best for the year ahead. See you in 2019!
