Did You Know…? Parents and SLPs Are a Great Team!

We here at Hello Online are big believers in Evidence Based Practice. We believe in asking questions of ourselves, our clients, and our professional community to ensure that we are doing what will bring the best outcomes for our clients. We also believe in the power of parents to make the critical difference in the progress of a child’s treatment. Lucky for us (and you!), the evidence supports this belief.

As a clinician, I love empowering parents with the knowledge and skills they need to work on speech everyday. When they realize that “speech time” can happen at the dinner table, in the car on the way to ballet, or while shooting hoops in the driveway, everything changes. Most importantly, kids make faster progress when they know mom and dad are on board. All of us here at Hello Online also know how tough it can be to connect with your SLP if your kiddo is getting speech at school or in the private clinic setting. We absolutely love the fact that, when we work with kids via Hello Online, we’re really working with families. We love chatting with Mom before the session, or taking part of a session with Dad sitting next to Junior and providing him coaching about how to give feedback for a good sounding /s/, or taking a whole session to talk to a parent about how to work a language target into daily routines. Because, like coffee and doughnuts, we’re so much better together.
